Lessons are well-designed, and follow along a logical progression, which makes it both meaningful for teachers and fun for children. While enjoying movement activities focused on developing body control, flexibility, and coordination the children easily pick up the meaning of the words they hear in the songs or movement games. They quickly become familiar with the vocabulary that goes with each lesson without thinking about it – to them, Ready-Steady-Move is just about having fun!
Lesson Overview
The Ready-Steady-Move program starts children with direct 'language to movement' commands, such as run, jump hop and skip. As lessons progress, they learn to interpret more sophisticated ideas through movement, such as,' How do we move when we are happy, sad or angry?' In this way, the children learn ever more complex vocabulary to accompany the increasingly sophisticated movements they perform.
Our teachers make sure that learning through Ready-Steady-Move is never pressured and always fun. Children learn at a comfortable pace, with extensive review of previous material so that they go into each new lesson with confidence - and that's a big boost to their self-esteem.
3-part Ready-Steady-Move Lesson Structure:
Each lesson begins with a warm-up activity for both the brain and the body:
- Brain Jogs: We start with what we call a 'Brain Jogs' activity, to prepare the mind. Brain Jogs are short fun exercises that stimulate children's right and left-side brain for optimum learning.
- Physical Warm-up: After Brain Jogs, the children engage in a fun, lively physical warm-up, to prepare their bodies for the entire lesson ahead.
- Active Lesson: The active lesson combines movement activities developed from yoga, dance and marital arts with songs, games, and work in our student activity book for visual reinforcement of language that has been introduced in the lesson.
